25.08.2009 - Anticipation in the air: Key players of European Open at press conference
One day before the official start of the European Open event in Tampere, Finland, the key players of the event sat down with Tampere media for a press conference in Hotel Ilves.
World Champions 2009 Valarie Jenkins and Avery Jenkins, Finnish Champion 2009 Jesse Heinonen, President’s Cup Team Captains Hasse Tegebäck and David Feldberg, and PDGA representatives Brian Graham and Brian Hoenieger shared their expectations regarding the third edition of European Open, and the upcoming President’s Cup.
All the press conference participants were once again looking forward to the great show that Jussi Meresmaa together with the European Open team puts together every time European Open is played.
Jesse Heinonen, the reigning Finnish Champion, was eager to get on the European Open course and show his skills on home ground. In addition to Heinonen and other Finnish players, several other European players have been practicing on the course quite a bit.
President’s Cup: Europe’s turn before USDGC in 2010?Â
The experience of European players with the course was the only factor that was slightly intimidating the American players when the topic of the President’s Cup team competition was raised. Otherwise, they came across with an air of confidence: the American team was ready to bring home the President’s Trophy again – for the third time in a row.
Brian Graham, PDGA Executive Director, said he would be happy to see Europe claim the title this time, and Captain Hasse Tegebäck assured that Team Europe will give USA a fair match, especially now before the competition moves to the US next year. The next edition of President’s Cup will be played in the US, in connection with the USDGC 2010.
