24.07.2011 - Report updated: David Feldberg and Valarie Jenkins are European Open 2011 Champions

David Feldberg and Valarie Jenkins are European Open 2011 Champions!

The European Open final was a battle all the way to the end. Feldberg secured his second European Open title only on the very last hole, when Paul Ulibarri's drive landed just centimeters OB and he got a 4, whereas David got a 3.

- That last putt from 10 ft away was definitely not easy, said Feldberg after the prize ceremony.

There was again a record-breaking crowd following the final round. Nokia Sports Centre Park offered great facilities for hosting the highest-level disc golf tournament in Europe so far. Having the crowd there helped David Feldberg during the final round:

- It was great to play with such a crowd watching and giving us that rush, praised Feldberg.

Nate Doss came third in the competition after having the keys to victory in his hands after a great round on Saturday. It was "the Beast", however, that showed Doss no mercy. On hole #6, Doss hit a tree twice and struggled a 7, which left him behind Ulibarri and Feldberg.

The best Europeans were Jesper Lundmark (SWE) in 6th place and Seppo Paju (FIN) and K-J Nybo (DEN) in 8th place. Simon Lizotte (GER) won the closest to pin competition on hole #13, and came 10th, tied with Nikko Locastro (USA).

Only 16 years old, Seppo Paju is the star of Finnish disc golf at the moment.

- I think I played the best tournament that I've ever played, said Paju. - There were no bad moments or holes, just solid rounds day after day.

What is it that still made the Americans better, Seppo Paju?

- It's their putting game that makes the difference. It gives them a 10-stroke advantage in each tournament, said Paju, still content with his own play.

Valarie Jenkins won the women's division for the second time in a row now, and says it was the third round on Saturday that gave her that comfortable advantage for the final.

- I'm definitely coming back again in two years, said Jenkins, holding the European Open cup in her hands with a broad smile on her face.

Congratulations to both our Champions!
